About the Item
These particular chairs were made around 1900 by the noted Arts & Crafts designer William Lethaby, one of the founder members of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society. William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones were also members. The Arts & Crafts movement itself took its name from this society. One of the conditions of exhibition was that furniture for the society had to be hand-made, which was a reaction to the cheap, machine-made furniture of the time. These chairs were indeed hand-made and are of exceptional quality.
