Edwardian Diamond & Black Enamel Gold Locket

An absolutely magnificent enamel and diamond locket/pendant from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This gorgeous and unusual piece is made of 14kt yellow gold and has a long octagonal shape. The outside surface of the front of the piece is covered in shiny black enamel and at the center is a prong-set diamond, set within a white gold box setting. Above and below the center diamond is fine filigree design which holds 6 sparkling diamonds. Connecting the top and bottom settings, and framing the center diamond, is a thin frame of yellow gold. This fabulous design holds a total of 11 diamonds which have an approximate total weight of .40ct tw. The reverse side of the locket is also covered in shiny black enamel and carries a complimentary design as the front, with a simple yellow gold frame. The sides of the locket are covered in beautifully etched yellow gold and the locket opens to reveal two vertical black and white photographs, covered with glass. The opposite side is smooth yellow gold with the engraving “TO MOTHER 1880-1930”. The piece hangs from the complimentary bail, which is made of 14kt white gold. It's a magnificent and unusual piece from the Edwardian era and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

The locket hangs approximately 2” long, is slightly more than 3/4" wide, and 1/8” thick.
