Spacial Frequency (Framed Infrared Silver Gelatin Print, Landscape)
By Susan Myers
Located in Hudson, NY
This framed infrared silver gelatin print of a treeline is the work of photographer Susan Myers, who experiments with the concept of pattern and frequency in her decision to focus not on the trees themselves, but on the parallel shadows they cast. The small 7.5 x 11.5 photograph is ready to hang in a white mat and black frame, equipped with a sturdy wire. About the artist: Susan Myers has loved photography since watching her first print develop in the darkrooms of SUNY Albany. Myers received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Fine Art from SUNY Albany in the early 80’s, and her Master of Fine Arts in Photography in the late 80’s from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Over the years, Myers has devoted herself to a wide range of subject matters and processes, from her graduate thesis - traditional black and white documentary work on schizophrenia - to nudes, landscape, and portrait work done as pinhole photography, Polaroid transfers, infrared, large format and color stills. Myers’s photography has appeared in numerous juried shows including the area’s Photo-Regionals and the Mohawk Hudson Regionals as well as the Mohawk Hudson Invitational. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Myers has worked as a commercial photographer, studio portrait photographer and as a photo educator. She has taught basic black and white darkroom techniques, color, non-silver processes and History of Photography at local colleges and high schools. Myers has juried numerous statewide and regional shows, and has acted as curator and/or coordinator for such notable shows as: Interpreting Landscape, (with the editor of Art in America); the 911 Show (with works from all over the country in many different artistic mediums); and Exposed, (with Anthony Montoya from Aperture). Myers was instrumental in reinvigorating the Photo-Regional, and help establish its current format which has thrived for the past dozen years. Myers is also an avid art collector, with works from the pages of photo history aw well...

Hudson River 10C x 210 (Black/White Abstract Grid Photograph of Bicyles)
By Elliott Kaufman
Located in Hudson, NY
Framed Archival Chromogenic Digital print image size: 20 x 35 inches paper size: 30 x 40 inches This print is available unframed with a 5 inch white border. Additional sizes available upon request. Elliott Kaufman describes New York City as “a laboratory in constant movement. In his series “Street Dance,” Kaufman photographs repetitive actions of passersby – such as riding a bicycle or entering a subway station – from a single vantage point and arranges the images in a grid. Key to his series, Kaufman explains, was caluculating how changing light would affect the environment. “The bicycles had to be backlit at the very end of the day,” he says. “The subway sterps were calculated so that the light would cast perfect north/south shadwos.” He also shot a varying number of exposures at each scene to relay the “staccato rhythm” he sought – as many as 225. “The camera catches the commonality of movement,” he says, “until what endures is a patter of dance and motion.” A number of artists have led him in this direction, including the Bauhaus and the collaborative media which they pioneered, the 1977 film Powers Of Ten, which depicts the relative scale of the universe in factors of ten, Mike Figgis...

ABOUT: In the hazy, warm New York summer, little is more refreshing than reclining on the beach in the mist of the icy ocean waves or enjoying a family trip to the country house. Each summer, Rice curates her favorite show, the Summertime Salon, which reminds us of this exact seasonal sentiment. The two, long walls of the gallery become mosaicked, top to bottom, side to side, in photographs that evoke all the preeminent feelings and memories of summer. Each year, the Summertime Salon matures and Rice’s annual masterpiece comes into fruition. This year is no exception. The show is a haven of what the Robin Rice Gallery stands for, a community of art and experience. As the largest annual exhibition, the Summertime Salon is carefully pieced together, the results are staggering. The works of the 53 gallery artists come together communally, reinforcing the overall sense of unity that the show creates as a whole. In knowing the photographs so fluently, Rice strategically places them together in a way that will enhance the individual stories contained in each. Details from one image flow from into the next, elevating every photograph in a distinctly unique way. This year’s invitational image, “Surf Club” by Silvia Lareo-Vasquez, features a woman in a vintage sun hat...

This year’s invitational image, “Surf Club” by Silvia Lareo-Vasquez, features a woman in a vintage sun hat reclining in the pool with a drink. The black and white image evokes an extreme sense of nostalgia in its cinematic portraiture and supple texture. With this, we are reminded of the refreshing notes of summer and the utter serenity of taking the day off to relax. The show’s imagery is evocative of all eras of summer, thus any viewer can relate or connect to one of the images. As Rice likes to say, “There’s something for everyone.” One image by Benjamin Heller details a strong owl flying...

Chrysanthemum: Still Life Photograph of Yellow Flowers in Contemporary Pop Style
By Newbold Bohemia
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern still life photograph of yellow flowers on a black background with splattered paint details Digital C-Print, edition of 10 30 x 30 inches unframed Newbold Bohemia offers a playful selection of images with his FLOWr series. Bohemia made these compositions by carefully capturing the graceful drips and squirts of acrylic paint around a yellow chrysanthemum submerged in a water tank, which produced a mesmerizing arrangement of color, shape and form. The artist explains that with each image he seeks to “…create not only an image, but an entire world within my image.” Newbold Bohemia (born 1965, Evansville, Indiana) mainly creates photos, although his work shares as much in common with painting as it does photography. Rather than using the camera to record the world around him, Bohemia prefers to work against the journalistic nature of photography. He creates his own world from scratch. In his studio he arranges still-lifes, builds sets, hires actors, and lights the scene. After capturing the image he often further enhances the work through digital or mechanical manipulation before printing the final work. Although not formally trained as an artist, his work is heavily influenced by his education and work in psychology, marketing and graphic design. Visual organization and story telling are equally important to Newbold Bohemia, although one may take precedence over another is a particular body of work. His work often focuses on the everyday and mundane, as well as historical and societal references. Tension, conflict, and humor are often introduced to create new ways of seeing the world we think we know. Newbold Bohemia currently lives and works in Chicago. His award-winning work has been exhibited throughout the United States. He is currently represented by the seller based in Hudson, NY. Artist Resume: 2017 Photography Group Exhibt, Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY 2015 Dec. 17 - Jan. 26th PHOTOGRAPHY 2015, Carrie Haddad Gallery 2014 Jan 24-March 2 Modern Artists, Carrie Haddad Gallery 2013 June 21-28 Faetopia (group), Noe/Market Center, San Francisco, CA May 4-June 15 Photo Regional 35 (PhotoGraphic purchase prize), Fulton Street Gallery, Troy NY March 1-22 - The Skin Show - Featured Artist, Upstate Artists Guild, Albany, NY Jan 26 – Meet the Artist - Newbold Bohemia (solo), American Hotel, Sharon Springs, NY 2012 Oct 17 – Artist Lecture, Falsified Documents and Fabrications, Schenectady Photographic Society, Schenectady, NY Aug 3, Sept 29 - Con.struct a juried exhibition, Saratoga Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, NY Aug 27 – Sept 3 – Gods, Mortals and Us, Burning Man, Black Rock City NV June 16 – Art Fair at the American Hotel (invitational art fair), Sharon Springs, NY. Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition of 10. If the exhibition piece is sold or the customer orders a different print size, the photograph is produced upon purchase. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: In her ninth solo show at the Robin Rice Gallery, veteran artist Patricia Heal documents her visual narrative of their enchanted home in upstate New York. Hidden within untouched forests lies Peabrook, a babbling brook running through the property. The classic architecture of the house is offset by uniquely quirky interiors designed by the English-born Patricia and her husband, Anthony Cotsifas, which generate an otherworldly existence within the estate. “Peabrook is my Neverland,” Heal states, in reference to J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. “It is a fictional place often described as a metaphor for eternal childhood.” Heal hopes that, with just a visit to the gallery and a little imagination, you, too, can see Peabrook. Her use of the large format, now-extinct Polaroid film for her black and white photographs, and the warm soft colors found in many of the other pieces of the collection, contribute to the sense of antiquity and fantasy surrounding Peabrook. The whimsical subject matter, including mythical creatures and extensive taxidermy, complete the “magical” representation of Heal’s home that she strove to depict. The simply framed 4” x 5”, 5” x 7” and 8” x 10” photographs sit within large mattes, in keeping with the classical quality of her images. “I really wanted to work in film again, and this project seemed the right one to do it with,” says Heal, who lists Sarah Moon and André Kertesz as artistic inspirations. The dark and mysterious invitational image, “Willow”, depicts a portrait of a hooded woman, her downward gaze partially obstructed by the soft branches of a fern from the surrounding garden. The earth-toned image contains the unpredictable streaked effect of developed instant film. In another image, entitled “Sitting Room”, we see a positive image of a film negative. Most notable is the hanging rhinoceros head towering impressively over two antique sitting chairs...

Calla (Modern Still Life Photograph of Magenta Flower with Green Paint Details)
By Newbold Bohemia
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern still life photograph of magenta calla flowers on a black background with bright green acrylic paint details Digital C-Print, edition of 10 30 x 30 inches unframed Newbold Bohemia offers a playful selection of images with his FLOWr series. Bohemia made these compositions by carefully capturing the graceful drips and squirts of bright green acrylic paint around a magenta calla flower submerged in a water tank, which produced a mesmerizing arrangement of color, shape and form.
