Signed lower right, 'Charles Harris', for Charles Gordon Harris (American, 1891-1963) and additionally signed verso.
A substantial and atmospheric landscape showing a view of the Seine in winter with bare trees contrasted against a background of ivory and blush and a view beyond towards a distant, snowy bridge beneath cool blue, clouded skies.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Charles Gordon Harris first studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and, subsequently, under Herbert Cyrus Farnum, Stacey Tolman and G. A. Hayes. Over the course of a long career, Harris exhibited widely and with success, including at the Attleboro Museum of Art, and was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards. He is listed in all relevant art reference works including Benezit and Who Was Who in American Art and was an elected member of art associations including the Providence Art Club, the Providence Water Color Club and the South County (Rhode Island) Art Association.

Charles Gordon Harris
Charles Gordon Harris studied at the Rhode Island School of Design; his teachers were Cyrus Farnum, Stacy Tolman and George Arthur Hays. Harris was a member of and exhibited at the Providence Art Club, the Providence Watercolor Club and the South County Art Association. He also exhibited at the Attleboro Museum of Art, among others.
