_____
Son of Cuban parents, José Ignacio Suarez Solis arrived in Rio de Janeiro during his childhood, settling in Bahia in 1974. Between 1987 and 1993 he studied in the United States, initially in New York and then on the West Coast, where he graduated with a B.A. Architecture from the University of Oregon. In Copenhagen (1990) he had contact with drawing and watercolor, starting to produce journals of sketches. He participated in his first exhibition in Oregon, in 1992. His first architectural project (1991) was the residence of the country, on the escarpment of Baía de Todos os Santos. In 1994, the artist settled on a coffee farm in Chapada Diamantina where he developed the practice of drawing and painting with greater regularity. A regular at Carybé's studio, he was influenced by sculptural practice involving the use of beaten iron. As an architect, José Ignacio was a project manager in the hotel sector, carrying out several transits throughout Latin America - which allowed him to improve his research and greater circulation of his work, integrating private collections spread across the places where he dwelt. In 2004 he did an artistic residency in Helsinki, Finland, redefining the use of your palette. Reinstalled in Salvador in 2018, the artist carries intellectual concerns that lead him between the affection for continental geography and the nostalgia for a destination. His investigations into the mythological imagery of indigenous matrices poetically translate into deities painted on canvas or sculpted in wood, stone, and iron.

- Real Fire: abstract painting w/ spray paint graffiti tag in red & blackBy Mat TomezskoLocated in Bryn Mawr, PAMat Tomezko's latest series of mixed media paintings uses evocative materials and imagery of fire, flowers, food, newspapers, asphalt, and ash to illuminate the interconnectedness of destructive and creative forces. "Real Fire" depicts flames and fire above a segment of abstract forms in spray paint recalling street art and graffiti tags. This painting is signed and dated on the back. It includes all hanging hardware and is ready to install -- no need for additional framing. Tomezsko is an artist from Philadelphia who creates abstract paintings, public art installations, and community art projects based around participation and everyday visual language. His approach to composition is informed by mid-century formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the 2017 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for outstanding public art. Tomezsko’s work has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the Center For Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; the Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, DE; and Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY. He has created several notable public art projects including "14 Movements: A Symphony in Color and Words," a mile-long temporary mural installed in downtown Philadelphia during the 2016 Democratic National Convention; "Look Long and Look Good," a series of 30 paintings currently installed along Main Street in Manayunk; and "Flowering Axes," a mural in the 5th Street Vehicular Tunnel underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge. His work is in the collection of The Wharton...Category
