Cornelis le Mair
The artist, born and raised in Eindhoven in 1944, graduated cum laude in portrait and figure painting from the Antwerp Art Academy in 1968, where he learned about traditional painting techniques under the tutelage of Victor Dolphyn.
Le Mair about his inspiration:
'The silent beauty of the world in which I grew up seems very special compared to the current hustle and bustle, the noise and the unstoppably advancing, all-pervading ugliness. My love for the noble craft may have its roots in my longing for a dreamed-of Arcadia, which I was allowed to glimpse as a child, but which is now gone and lost forever.
Le Mair mentions an important event from his youth was a visit to the Rembrandt exhibition in 1956 in the Rijksmuseum. He traveled with his father by train to Amsterdam where he marveled at the works of art by the Dutch Old Masters. He says about this:
'The desire grew within me to unravel all the secrets that lay hidden behind the cracked varnish'.
After he left school early, worked as a design maker, was forced to serve and was expelled due to adjustment difficulties, he went to the art academy in 's Hertogenbosch on the advice of his parents. Here he was forced to leave reality and embrace free expression. Something he had no interest in. On the advice of the teachers there, he went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. There, teaching was still conducted there, albeit only sporadically, according to traditional views. He was placed in Victor Dolphyn's teaching group.
After graduating in 1968, he remained in Antwerp where life suited him, and supported himself by performing as a troubadour in cafés and small theaters. He also had his first exhibitions there and built up his first clientele. From 1970 he lived with his wife and child, as an independent artist, in the Eindhoven area, until in the mid-1970s he moved to the farm where he lives and works to this day. A book has even been published about the farm where he lives and how he transformed it into a work of art and TV programs have been devoted to it...

Cornelis Le Mair
Cornelis le Mair was born in Eindhoven on July 3, 1944. He is a Dutch painter. A romantic painter, he is famous because of his 17th-century paintings. As a child, Le Mair developed a talent for drawing. After completing high school he went to study at the art academy in 's-Hertogenbosch where he hoped to improve his painting techniques. He left the academy because, in his opinion, free expression was taught almost exclusively. He was advised to transfer to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where the old painter's craft would still be learned. In professor Victor Dolphijn he found a teacher in the art of craftsmanship of old masters. In 1968, Le Mair graduated cum laude in the field of portrait, still life and figure painting. In 1973, Le Mair established himself as an independent painter in an old farmhouse in the vicinity of his hometown Eindhoven. He calls the style in which he works traditional craft. His work is described by art critics as not very innovative. With the general public, however, he is successful and receives many commissions for portraits. He has also arranged exhibitions in galleries and museums that attract many visitors. In addition to his profession, painting portraits, figures, still lifes and single landscapes, he is involved in periods with architecture, making images, building musical instruments and making furniture. He also has several publications on painting to his name.

- Still Life of Bouquet in two-handled vases - Oil on Panel by Vincenzo dé FioriLocated in Roma, ITStill Life is a superb original oil painting on panel, realized by the Italian artist Vincenzino Volò, best-known as Vincenzino dei Fiori (Rémondans, 1620-Milan, 1671) around 1640-1660. Original Title: Natura morta di fiori entro vasi biansati (Still life of Bouquet in two-handled vases). On the back of the panel, two labels are glued "da Milano", "A Piacenza", ("from Milan" "to Piacenza"). The labels indicate a transfer of the artwork, perhaps in the first half of the twentieth century, from Piacenza to Milan. While instead the style and technique make us understand the artwork was commissioned or created in the Milan of Federico Borromeo, archbishop of Milan from1595 to 1630. The author of the painting can be identified in the person of Vincenzo Volò, a talented artist who fell into oblivion, recently rediscovered and appreciated. Founder of the Vincenzini family, he was born in Franche-Comté in 1620 (in the past its birth was erroneously fixed to 1606). In the mid-forties of the seventeenth century he arrived to Milan, and held a leading artistic role: he was the founder of a family workshop that imposed his style and strongly influenced Milanese collecting with his still lifes and influenced generations and generations of painters. Vincenzino also was the first painter of still life to work on the Bella Island for Vitaliano VI Borromeo and collaborated with well-known figure painters such as Francesco Cairo, Scaramuccia, Nuvolone and Fumagalli. As regards the style, the archaic tendency of Lombard painting of still life from the early decades of the seventeenth century is clearly evident, looking at primitivism and the happy schematization of the composition of the artwork. The dating of this artwork could be fixed around the first half of the seventeenth century because it is confirmed by the type of support, a wooden panel, always used by Vincenzino. As for the subject, Volò generally painted bouquets of flowers in two-handled vases placed on transversal planes seen from the front. It is possible to compare this work with other Dei Fiori's artworks: the pair of Flower Vases...Category
