Adha Widayansah
Intermezzeo #1: Nocturn

2022

About the Item

Distance is a relationship between two things that connects or separates them. Distance in this work is an 'interlude', an activity that is carried out on the side-lines of daily activities. Meanwhile, nocturn is when the artist is more active at night to use the interlude to compose and process ideas in his works. About the Artist: Adha is a self-taught Indonesian painter with innate talent. His painting style is a combination of impressionism and realism. In his recent works, the central subject have been mysterious female figures with great poise, beautifully juxtaposed with nature. For Adha, maintaining balance of the elements in his paintings is a direct result of steadiness and poise in his own thoughts, words, emotions and actions which he believes to be the secret to a harmonious life. Rooted to his philosophy of life, he keeps evolving as an artist and as a person. The desirability of his works comes from the right balance of colors, strokes, emotions, textures and details and would bring a new dimension and energy to any room.

Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League. Lathrop first moved east in the early 1880s, and took a job at the Photoengraving Company in New York City. While there, he befriended a fellow employee, Henry B. Snell. The two men became lifelong friends and ultimately, both would be considered central figures among the New Hope Art Colony. Lathrop's early years as an artist were ones of continuing struggle.
