About the Item

Truman Brewery Chimney By Benedict Flanagan [2021] original Oil Paint on primed paper Image size: H:35 cm x W:26 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:39 cm x W:29 cm x D:0.2cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look Painted en plein air on Brick Lane on the 21st of August 2021. I was struck by the profile of the Truman Brewery chimney on the skyline. It was an overcast day and the atmosphere felt thick, I felt I could really push the atmospheric perspective going down the street turning the distance blue. Benedict’s paintings are studies of colour and light inspired by the everyday life he finds around him. Whether it is landscape en plein air, still life or figure, it is important it is painted from life. Pieces aim to capture the subtlety in the interaction of light and atmosphere on the subject. As a professional illustrator Benedict’s is trained as an alumni of Falmouth University, UAL and academically trained at London Fine Art Studios. The progression of this experience has informed the artist’s primary focus as the artist continues to learn and be inspired by recreating the effects of light, atmosphere and colour.
