About the Item
A stunning oil painting scene depicting figures by a flower market next to La Madeleine in Paris done in the 20th Century. The colors and impressionistic brushwork is done with both detail and precision. The flower vendors are depicted on a beautiful day with many figures going about their day. Its subject of the Flower Stands by the Madeleine is a wonderful execution by Blondin, which was a favorite spot for many contemporary Parisian artists from that time. This painting is signed by the artist lower left and it comes comes housed in a beautiful gold tone decorated frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Charles Blondin was a French impressionist painter and print maker known for his depictions of Paris during different seasons. Born in 1913 in France, Blondin lived and painted Paris during the 1930's and 1940's and he was a member of the School of Paris, or Ecole de Paris and his most active period dates from 1928 to the 1950s. The Paris Etching Society and the Camilla Lucas Gallery published a colorful series of color etchings by Blondin of iconic views of Paris. His birth name is unknown as he took the name of Charles Blondin from the famous Jean-François Gravelet dit Charles Blondin (1824-1897) whom was a French tight rope walker who crossed the Niagara on a tightrope in 1859. The artist Charles Blondin died 1991.
