  • 1927 Carmel by the Sea - Beach, California Coastline - Oil on Linen
    Located in Soquel, CA
1927 Carmel by the Sea - Beach, California Coastline - Oil on Linen Seascape oil painting of the Carmel coastline by Charles Henry Harmon (American, 1859-1936). Vibrant blue Pacific waves crash along Carmels white sands, with a walk way on the cliffs above. A lush green sycamore tree is seen to the left, beyond the cliffs. Vibrant greenery is seen on either side of the walkway, depicting colors of greens, yellows, and browns. Signed "Charles Harmon 1927" lower left. Charles Henry Harmon was born on December 23, 1859 in Mansfield, Ohio. He moved to San Jose, California with his family in 1874 and at an early age was apprenticed to local portrait painter Louis Lussier. He later spent one year working in a local photography studio re-touching negatives. His youth was spent visiting the art galleries of San Francisco and, with no formal training, he began sketching and painting in 1883 in the beautiful Santa Clara Valley. He painted many landscapes of that area and made trips to the remotest parts of the Sierra and the Monterey Peninsula where he painted many coastal scenes. He began exhibiting in San Jose in the 1880s. By the turn of the century, his works were handled exclusively by Gump's and he was recognized as one of California's foremost painters. In 1905 he established a studio in Denver and for seven years concentrated on the rugged landscape of the Rocky Mountains. While there, the Santa Fe, Western Pacific, and Colorado, Midland railroads commissioned him to paint scenes along their routes. After his time in Colorado, he returned to San Jose where he remained for the rest of his life. Harmon died there on October 14, 1936 and is buried in Oak Hill...

Presented in a contemporary giltwood frame. Image size: 9"H x 12"W. Framed size: 10.60"H x 14"W x 1"D Westchiloff is an American-Russian artist. He finally settled in New England, where he died in 1945. He is probably best-known for seascapes (particularly of the New England coastline), but was also well regarded for his landscapes, portraits and figures, and genre subjects. His work, especially after his travels in Europe and then in America, is closest to Impressionist in style. His favored medium was oil, which was well suited to his confident and strong technique. This in turn imbued his paintings of the rugged landscapes and seascapes of New England...

  • "Incoming Tide, Spooners Cave" contemporary realist landscape en plein air
    Located in Sag Harbor, NY
An oil painting of high tide at Spooners Cove, California. Artist Bio Joseph Paquet, while pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York, had the good fortune of finding mentors in artists James McMullan and John Foote who opened his eyes to the joys of drawing the human figure. After graduating, Paquet met another major influence in his life, John Osborne, who was uniquely gifted artist and teacher. Osborne believed that a landscape painting should begin on location, but that its poetic essence should be completed in the solitude of the artist's studio. Paquet experienced a demanding and rewarding apprenticeship, in which he learned to fuse field studies with the image he could see in his mind's eye. Increasingly however, Paquet is creating most of his work from life, believing that the direct correspondence with nature increases the potential for greater feeling. "Intellect, he says, doesn't keep one warm at night." He has been featured in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine, The Artist's Magazine, American Artist, Southwest Art and Plein Air Magazine. Paquet's awards include both Artist's Choice and Collector's Choice from The 2007 Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational as well as the 2008 Alden Bryan...
