Ferdinand Heilbuth
Ferdinand Heilbuth Lady and her Dog

About the Item

Ferdinand Heilbuth: 1826-1889. Well listed very important 19th century French painter. He was born in Germany but lived and painted mostly in France becoming a French citizen in 1876. He often exhibited at the Paris salon as well as Royal Academy in London. He worked and showed along side Millet, Gerome, Delacroix and Troyon. He has auction sales over $70,000. This is perhaps the finest portrait we have had in our collection in over 35 years. It is oil on canvas measuring 37 inches high by 22.5 wide. The spectacular gilded carved 19th century frame appears to be original to the painting. Frame measures 44 inches high by 29.5 wide. Frame has just 1 missing small piece top left, see pic. Painting in very good original condition. There is 1 spot very lower left where someone put a small plaque with artist name directly on painting. I could not believe it myself, see last pic. Every detail is incredible. From her beautiful face, to her dog, to every fold in her dress. There is remnants of an old label on back stretcher.
