Warren Beatty, Silver Gelatin Print

1967 (Printed Later)

About the Item

Warren Beatty (b.1937) dropped out of Northwestern University to study acting with Stella Adler. He made his film debut in Elia Kazan’s Splendor in the Grass (1961). In 1967, Beatty teamed with director Arthur Penn to make Bonnie and Clyde, the real-life story of two Depression-era bank robbers co-starring Faye Dunaway. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Beatty received his first nomination for Best Actor. Jack Robinson photographed Beatty on August 8, 1967, just as Bonnie and Clyde was hitting the screens, and the Vogue feature describes the film as “grim, funny, completely absorbing.” Beatty is described as “hell-on-wheels and vibrant with savvy” . . . “Natural elegance, that’s what this cat’s got.” Silver gelatin print on Ilford Galerie Baryta paper Edition of 25 Estate signed and stamped Print on 20" x 24" paper We print on Thursdays. In the Country, 1988 is by Roberta Fineberg. A black-and-white documentary-style portrait of a French woman in the countryside - from northeast France, the Haute-Marne, the subject is photographed against a backdrop of fresh-cut hay. Far from Paris the French maintain deep connections with the land - owning often an ancestral house in the countryside, often rustic, a nation equally rooted in the agrarian. Provenance: RF Archive *** Artist's Bio: As a photographer and visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and subjects such as the ephemeral (butterfly series), stolen moments (documentary work), play, timelessness, the enduring, and significance of matter. In July 2022, Roberta Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries.
