Questa foto, come le altre della serie Indian Stills, é stata esposta in varie rassegne e festival di fotografia sia in Italia che all’estero, come la Biennale di Fotografia di Brescia, il FotoGrafia Festival di Roma, il Boutographies di Montpellier, il Turin Photo Fest, nel circuito Off di Fotografia Europea di Reggio Emilia, al Nerhu Center e alla 118 Gallery di Londra alla Galleria Glenda Cinquegrana el MIA diMilano

Trenta immagini per l’india (Testo dal catalogo della Biennale di Fotografia di Brescia )
di Mauro Corradini docente di storia dell’arte presso la “Laba” (Accademia di Belle Arti di Brescia) e critico d’arte.
Indian Stills richiama l’incanto di un mondo fatto di silenzi, di imperturbabile solennità, di una forza interiore che travalica i tempi e giunge fino a noi dalle profondità della storia, ma senza quelle forme, fastose e magiche, degli antichi luoghi di una civiltà millenaria come quella dei Marahja Indiani e che pochi segni esteriori possono tentare di svelare.
I personaggi di queste fotografie, ci incantano sfuggendo ad ogni condizionamento temporale, ad ogni cronologia. Ci osservano dalla lontananza di una civiltà che ha dato loro i tratti, i segni, il portamento di una cultura che ci sfugge, ancorata come è ai ritmi interiori dell’animo.
Le pose sono riconducibili a poche scelte: figure in piedi, riprese in ambienti quotidiani, spesso in cortili interni, contro muri di mattoni senza intonaco, oppure ritratti, volti ravvicinati, che con fierezza e serietà si propongono per illustrare una storia. Posano per noi, senza quel folklore, che troppo spesso trasforma tanti ritratti in cartoline turistiche, per fare entrare il lettore in una civiltà, antica almeno quanto la nostra, facendo emergere il senso antico di una cultura che sfugge ai dogmi della cosiddetta modernità
Entrerà certamente la nostra modernità; è già entrata; ma questi Indian Stills ci introducono in una dimensione che scruta i secoli attraverso i volti, le pose, la pacatezza degli atteggiamenti, cercando di svelare la quieta grandezza di una dimensione di vita.

Portate da un viaggio in India, queste immagini hanno la semplice bellezza degli occhi di un autore che sa come farle emergere dal caos del visibile.
Abituati come siamo all’esercizio del ritratto esotico rimaniamo increduli dai fronte alla forza di queste immagini semplici ma aperte alla nostra presenza. La coerenza plastica che dalle ricche materi tessili, agli sfondi, e alla stessa texture della fotografia produce una decisa continuità estetica.
Il bianco e nero, e la cornice che deriva dalla permanenza delle tracce dei supporti di protezione delle polaroid, contribuiscono a installare l'immagine su un piano grafico coerente. Nulla comunque è fisso. Tutto è umile e riservato, i personaggi ci invitano a condividere il loro mondo segreto inscritto in uno spazio e un tempo immemorabile.
