2023

About the Item

"Prières et Rituels dans L'émerveillement" is a surrealist metal sculpture made of stainless steel & bronze with patina. This boat, branch, ladder sculpture is indoor or outdoor. Corrina is inspired by the work of Louise Bourgeois, Louise Nevelson, Albert Paley, Lee Bontecou. Atlanta-based mixed media artist Corrina Sephora specializes in metal sculpture, painting, and site specific installations. Her most recent body of work, Uncharted Waters, combines ancient and contemporary technology and nautical and celestial imagery to celebrate life’s journeys, voyages and the dance with liminal spaces. They are an exploration of movement in the transitions between day and night, life and death, sky and water, earth and fire, permanence and impermanence. Corrina’s sculptures are intended to be universal, but also very personal. A repeating motif in Corrina’s work is the boat, often a reference to her sea captain grandfather and the boats built by her father. Her mother’s poetry and words also permeate through Corrina’s work, “I am sending this prayer to you from the Moon.” Conceptually there is a focus on the elements of water and air, materially the works are created with earth and fire. Blacksmiths have historically created both functional works and spiritual objects, specifically staffs that ceremoniously touch the heavens, the spirit realm, and the earth, acting as conductors of energy. They were diviners, healers and sorcerers within communities, harnessing the elements. Corrina’s Avirons (oars) are inspired by these ceremonial staffs, combined with her personal connections to the sky and water. The oar is what powers and steers, physically, scientifically, and spiritually through uncharted waters. Corrina earned her BFA in Metals and Sculpture at Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, in 1995. She received her MFA in Sculpture in 2005 from Georgia State University and has done residencies throughout the US and abroad. Her work is on permanent display at The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, The Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Greenfield Hebrew Academy, and in the collection of The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, among others.

  • "Guardian" - abstract sculpture - Barbara Hepworth
    By Susan Hable
    Located in Atlanta, GA
Susan Hable is inspired by the work of David Hockney, Milton Avery, Henri Matisse, Alex Katz, Howard Hodgkins, Hilma af Klint, Georgia O'Keeffe, Barbara Hepworth and Constantin Brâncuși. With humor and a bit of mischief, Susan Hable’s “Don't Pick The Flowers!” is a body of work that is at once a refuge and a playground. Inspired by her sumptuous garden just outside of her Athens studio, Susan flows from one medium to the next from painting to collage to sculpture. Susan sees her garden as a place for adventure and daydreaming, challenging her perceptions of what her Art can be. Even a weedy ground cover has caught Susan’s eye, an overlooked invasive is seen in a new light becoming a dreamlike fairytale path. Her work asks us to engage in life, go for a walk and play. Susan Hable Smith is the artist and designer behind the boldly colored and hand drawn patterns of Hable Construction...

  • Large 1970's Israeli Abstract Sculpture Steel Menashe Kadishman Tel Aviv Uprise
    By Menashe Kadishman
    Located in Surfside, FL
Hitromemut (Uprise) Beautiful large sculpture by renowned Israeli sculptor Menashe Kadishman. Super quality, and visually stunning. There is a large monumental version of this in front of the Habima Theater, Israel's National Theatre in the heart of Tel Aviv. this is from the small edition of 10. The elements of this work, are balanced on top, in opposition to its construction. Menashe Kadishman was born in Tel-Aviv in 1932. He is a Graduate of St. Martin's School of Art, University of London. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he remained until 1972. He had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968). In 1995, he began painting portraits of sheep. These instantly-recognizable sheep portraits...
