British, b. 1952
Martin Parr (b.1952) is a British documentary photographer, photojournalist and photobook collector. Parr is known for his photographic projects that take an intimate, satirical, and anthropological look at aspects of modern life, in particular documenting the social classes of England, and more broadly the wealth of the West. His projects include The Last Resort (1983–1985), The Cost of Living (1987–1989), Small World (1987–1994) and Common Sense (1995–1999). Since 1994, Parr has been a member of Magnum Photos and is the author of 40 photobooks with work in many exhibitions worldwide, including the international touring exhibition "ParrWorld."(Biography provided by 99Prints)

The work is signed to the back together with an affixed archival label which carries the image’s accompanying text and is printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Matte paper. The piece is mounted in a white lacquered frame.
The accompanying text by the artist reads:
“North Korea is maybe the most surreal country on Earth. Being there is like walking around on a film set. People don’t want to engage with a foreigner, such as myself, but I loved coming across this baby, who was very happy to stare right back at me!”

“In 1995 I bought a ring flash and a macro lens, a combination usually associated with medical photography. My first project was to take photos of British food, a subject often regarded as very lacklustre, but which has in recent years enjoyed a strong revival. This photo was one of the first taken and suddenly I could see the possibilities with this new approach.”
