Vintage 1960s Sarmi Couture Seafoam-Green Jeweled Low-Plunge Silk Chiffon Gown

About the Item

Breathtaking Sarmi Couture evening gown dating back to the mid 1960's. Ferdinando Sarmi expressed interest in fashion during his youth but was discouraged from pursuing a design career by his father. Sarmi stated in a 1965 interview with Time, "in Italy, when the oldest son tells his father he wants to be a dress designer, it's like a woman saying she intends to be a prostitute." During the late 1950's he developed a wonderful reputation as a top designer, wooing an influential clientele that included celebrities, New York socialites and foreign dignitaries. Pat Nixon wore a Sarmi gown to her husband's second Inaugural Ball in 1957. He was best known for opulent evening looks and for his use of extravagant fabrics. This gorgeous pale seafoam-green silk chiffon goddess gown is a perfect example of his genius. The flattering bodice is a low-cut plunge sculpted empire. Thousands of sparkling rhinestones & silver-beads intertwine to make the divine shoulder straps. This detail alone must have taken hours to create. The yards and yards of flowing silk chiffon that finish off this garment with a beautiful ethereal vibe. I totally see this gown gliding down the red carpet. Measurements Bust: 32-33 inches High Waist: 26 inches Hips: 36 inches Total Length: 56 inches This Sarmi Couture designer dress is in excellent condition with no rips, holes or discoloration. Perfectly working back hand-set metal zipper and full lining. Only sign of age are some minor pulls to the silk. A wearable investment piece that will only go up in value.
