Taylor Backes Large Art Glass Bowl, Cobalt and Speckled, Postmodern

About the Item

Hand blown art glass bowl has speckled exterior in shades of off-white, burgundy, and light blue, separated by light green rim from cobalt blue interior. A thin green line swirls throughout the piece, guiding the eye and adding movement and interest to a minimally shaped piece. The bowl is signed on the underside with etched “Taylor Backes”. Taylor Backes was created in 1982 by Karla Trinkley and Will Dexter. Both were making and showing their work in fine art galleries; their work can be found in the permanent collections of The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The American Craft Museum, The Corning Museum of Glass and the Smithsonian Institute, as well as personal collections across the globe. Their objective in co-founding Taylor Backes studio was to continue developing own individual styles, collaborate with other glass artists, and produce distinctive innovative work.
