Solid Brutalist Art Glass Bowl by Pertti Santalahti, Humppila, Finland
About the Item
This is a handmade vintage brutalist masterpiece,a crystal glass bowl made and signed by the talented Pertti Santalahti for Humppila Finland. The shape is very unusual as well as the technique used, making this piece resembling rock crystals. The colors fades from clear crystal at the base which into various shades of dark grey or black color, with the original sticker. It has a contemporary feeling to it, yet it is still very 70s in the style, making this a fantastic glass bowl, a piece of art and will be an eye-catching centerpiece.
It is 13cm (5.11") high and around 20cm (7.87”) wide and 15cm (5.9") deep at the base in a square shape. This is a rather heavy object, with a weight around 1kg (around 2.3lbs), it is in an excellent condition, the price includes FREE shipping.
Santalahti was as many other Finnish glass designers influenced by elements of the rugged Finnish landscape, casting textures from materials such as tree bark and rock. Finland has for many become synonymous with design in many areas, especially when it comes to Finnish glass art. Finnish glass art has been made and still is made at factories and studios, where they have produced some of the most iconic pieces, which can be seen at exhibitions and museums all over the world today.
The international spotlight for its Finnish glass art came in the mid 1930's with artists and designers such as Alvar Aalto, Oiva Toikka, Tamara Aladin, Tapio Wirkkala, Kaj Franck, and Timo Sarpaneva. In the 19060s and 70s we also have important designers such as Helena Tynell and Nanny Still among others. However, newer artists are still emerging to continue the tradition in innovative forms.
