Blue Unique Vase, Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
About the Item
Balustrade Vase, 2016, (Ceramic, C. 13 in. h x 8.5 in. d, Object No.: 4145).
Turi Heisselberg Pedersen has, all through her career, strived to develop the vessel as abstract form and as an independent sculptural object.
As Turi notes “working in clay is to me connected with many underlying cultural bound references, but also strongly connected to nature. The very process of building in clay is a process from nature to culture. We have an inherent understanding of beauty and design evolved in thousands of years of visual impressions from our cultural history, but especially also from nature. In this context, I am aiming to create a visual and emotional reading of the objects, working with shape, rhythm, volume, movement, and texture”.
In the interplay between culture and nature, Turi’s works are inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing or folded paper shapes. Most of her faceted shapes seem to have a seed of coincidence or unplanned development, reminding one of crystal formations growing in irregular clusters.?
Heisselberg Pedersen’s sculptures are hand-modeled from stoneware and glazed with slip-glazes, which gives the works a stone-like, dry surface with a rich texture. Some of Turi’s designs have expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures but most of them are simply just trying to express the inherent character and freshness of the clay.
Turi Heisselberg Pedersen was born in Denmark in 1965. She was educated at the prestigious Design School Kolding, Denmark and lives and works in Copenhagen. She has been lecturing at Kolding School of Design from 1994 – 2007 and is the Co-founder of the “Exhibition Room for New Ceramics” in Copenhagen.

- Unique Colorful Sculpture, Toni LoseyBy Toni LoseyLocated in New York, NYToni Losey’s work hums with an underlying current of rhythm and organization. The repetition found on the wheel influences her work as Losey intuitively builds sculptural forms mirroring the patterns of growth in nature. These works evolve within a set of rules developed from her personal interpretation of the natural world. As she attempts to marry technical processes with conceptual prowess, the work that emerges seems to exist outside of the maker, something otherworldly but organic, familiar but new. Losey’s work captures natural progressions found in nature and aims to renew our connection to the planet. Losey, born in the Canadian prairies...Category
