Bat Vase Cut Crystal Val Saint Lambert Attributed Charles Graffart

About the Item

Art Deco Bat pattern cut crystal vase Attributed to Charles Graffart (1873-1967) Val Saint Lambert circa 1928 Charles Graffart is described in the British Museum Curatorial notes as the most talented cutter at the factory and was known for unique and uncatalogued work. This vase is from the estate of a published glass researcher and provenance will be provided to the purchaser. The vase has been examined by numerous glass specialists who agree that it's origin is Val Saint Lambert, Belgium and that it dates to the late 1920’s or early 1930’s. And, given that the design is of extraordinary interest and instantly recognizable, no one expects another to turn up. See British Museum curatorial notes accession 2003,0105.1 This is a rare collectible suitable for major museum exhibitions and/or the most discerning private collections. Lovers of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Symbolism alike are going to find numerous ways to celebrate and enjoy this example. And, yes, it will hold flowers... perhaps even nightshade. hehe.

  • Bertil Vallien Cameo Midnight sky Vase with Ravens Crows Kosta Boda Atelier 1992
    By Bertil Vallien

Bertil's work is often haunting, but this bottle vase is ready for display or perhaps for the most adventurous as a container for your personal witch's brew. A entire layer of end of day type scattered glass has been cameo acid cut back to reveal a frosted midnight blue glass underlayer. But, just look at these birds. Ravens, crows... certainly birds of the night. A taller neck than I have seen before and the slight slumping and bubbled inclusions reinforce the visual message that this is both art and handicraft. The fortuitous bold coloration of the birds makes the pattern boldly assert. Marked Kosta Boda Atelier 92 and B Vallien...
