Stated first edition hardcover with dust jacket. 243 pp. The history of painting in Siena from its beginnings of the 13th century to the 15th century. The Sienese style was an artistic language of power, inventiveness and beauty. It featured a highly decorative use of color, the construction of complex space and a particular emotional expression. Artist's include Simone Martini, Pietro Lorenzietti and Ambrogio Lorenaetti.
