Antique Kashkooli / Qashqai Jajim - Nomadic Persian Kilim - Plaid

About the Item

Immaculate early 20th Century Kashkooli Jajim, Nomadic Persian Kilim 4' 9" x 6' 3" Whimsical jajim, kilim hand woven by the renown Kashkooli sub-tribe of the Qashqais. Jajims are a type of kilim woven to be used as blankets for people or horses and some larger examples were even used as tent wraps for insulation and identification. In order for these wraps to help communicate a tribes heritage, each tribe has unique patterns and colors used to distinguish themselves. Because these pieces served many purposes and often exposed to the elements, good condition jajims can be difficult to find. The scarcity of intact jajims and their rich heritage make these beautiful pieces highly sought after by collectors. This piece is comprised entirely of fine Persian wool that was raised, sheared, spun, dyed, and flat woven by a member of the Kashkooli tribe almost 100 years ago. Because they are flat woven, these pieces are double sided and versatile. In order for them to insulate well and withstand the elements jajims are finely woven and this piece is no exception. Kashkoolis are known for their intricate handiwork and vibrant colors. This piece features the signature orange, that the kashkoolis are well known for. Vibrant colors are balanced with the creams and blacks help highlight the detailed stitching involved in creating this piece. These colors and this design work very well in many interiors. They can be thrown anywhere as a blanket, as a rug, or even wall decor. These pieces are incredibly versatile and a delight to look at. Depsite being near 100 years of age, this jajim is in remarkable condition. Usually by this age you will find examples of these torn in two or unravelling, but this piece remains intact and absolutely gorgeous. This piece, like the rest of our collection, was hand-picked by Persian Rug expert and Shiraz native, Jason Dadras. Each piece was acquired through the relationships he forged around the world. Our rugs are ethically sourced and have been legally imported.
