Italian Mid-Century Bamboo Rocking Chair, Franco Albini for Bonaccina

About the Item

Elegant and robust Italian Mid-Century Modern bamboo rocking chair restored and shellac polished, Franco Albini for Bonacina. Measures cm: D 100 x W 60 x H 42/110. About VITTORIO BONACINA Between the 1950s and 1960s Vittorio Bonacina, Giovanni's son, began collaborating with the company of the same name with young designers who, for the most part, gravitated around the world of the Milan Polytechnic. Thanks to the organization of the various editions of the Giunco Exhibitions in Lurago d'Erba in 1958, 1959 and 1961, designers such as Mario Bellini, Guido Canella, Raffaella Crespi, Gianfranco Frattini, Franco Bettonica, Roberto Sambonet and Ico Parisi entered the workshops. The designer Franco Albini created the Gala and Margherita armchairs with Bonacina in 1951, still in production and on display at the Milan Triennale. Both seats have a cane structure with bark and rattan cane. Among the other designers who collaborated with the company in the late fifties and sixties, Franca Helg, who designs the Primavera armchair in 1967, and Giovanni Travasa with the Eureka hanging chair (1958) and the Eva armchairs (1965), Palla (1966) and Leaf (1968). From 1970 Mario Bonacina, son of Vittorio and himself an architect and designer, joined his father in the laboratory continuing the relationship with the numerous designers. Of great importance for the company in these years is the collaboration with Renzo Mongiardino. The pieces from the historical archive of the 1920s were reworked by Mario Bonacina and Renzo Mongiardino and destined for the homes of an international clientele of collectors and great entrepreneurs including Thyssen, Agnelli, Mondadori. The rattan and rattan furnishings produced by Vittorio Bonacina become one of the hallmarks of Marella Agnelli's style of interior decoration. In the eighties the collaboration with important designers continued, such as Gae Aulenti, who in 1984 designed the MdO' armchair on the occasion of the transformation of Orsay station into a museum. The collaborations with Mattia Bonetti, Clementine Chambon, Marco Zanuso Jr and Giuseppe Raboni with the SuperElastica armchair (2007) date back to the 2000s. In 2012, the fourth generation of the Bonacina family joined the company with Elia Bonacina.
