We have been a huge Giorgio Zennaro fan ever since we discovered his work in a fabulous art gallery in Venice, Italy in the 80s. This rare Giorgio Zennaro (1926-2005) silkscreen on paper, 1972. Signed. Number 3/100 was purchased in Venice. One of four pieces currently listed from a major Palm Springs art collector’s private collection. Amazing colorations. Never framed. Giorgio Zennaro ( Venice , 10 October 1926 – Venice , 13 August 2005 ) was an Italian sculptor , painter and designer .
Born in Venice, second of three children of Romano Zennaro and Italia. The father loses his job as a municipal employee for not having joined the fascist party . He attended primary school at the " Armando Diaz " school and later a professional school for mechanical students at the Arsenale of Venice . At eighteen he was hired by the State Railways where he remained until 1970 .
His artistic activity began early with his participation in all the sculpture collectives of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation from 1953 to 1965 and in 1955 he won the first prize from the Municipality of Venice .
From 1959 he participated in the international Bronzetto competitions of Padua until the seventies. In 1961 he was the only Italian invited to the European Sculpture Symposium in Austria. In 1966 he executed a marble work for the Henraux International Museum. In 1968 he won the National Competition for a sculpture to be placed in a school building in Rosolina in the province of Rovigo. In 1969 he won the National Competition for a sculpture to be included in a school building in Sant'Alberto di Ravenna .
Since 1971 he has been a renowned professor of plastic art at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Campo dei Carmini in Venice, now the Liceo Artistico Statale , and here he will teach until 1991 .
He has been followed since the sixties by the critic Giuseppe Marchiori who, in 1970, introduced him to the gallery owner Luciano Ravagnan . In 1972 he was invited to the XXXVI International Art Exhibition in Venice ( Grafica d'oggi ). In 1973 he participated in the X National Quadrennial of Art in Rome [1] , ( Situation of non-figurative art ) and the following year he participated in the
Personal exhibitions followed in Venice , Milan (Pietra gallery), Genoa (Rotta gallery), Graphic Gallery in Palm Springs (California), Bologna (La loggia gallery), Milan (Falchi gallery), Monaco (Eichinger gallery), New York (Randall Galleries). In 1977 he participated in the Arte Fiera di Bologna, Art Expo New York 1979 , Wash Art 79, Expò Art '79 Bari, Art Expo 1980 Coliseum New York, Art 12 1981 Basel (Switzerland), Arteder 1982 (Bilbao), Shada Gallery ( Riyadh , Saudi Arabia).
In 1984 he created a 10 meter high sculpture to be placed in front of the Provincial Building in Munster (Germany).
In 1990 he created a 4 meter high sculpture which is currently in Ireland donated by the Italian ambassador Francesco Carlo Gentile [2] .
In 1992 he participated in the Osaka International Art Triennial for sculpture and won the Japanese Railways prize .
In 1993 he participated in the Osaka International Art Triennial for painting and in 1994 in the Osaka International Art Triennial for graphics. Three sculptures by him are present in the Museum of Modern Art of Ca' Pesaro in Venice and one in the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome .
In addition to Giuseppe Marchiori who followed him with a careful critical analysis until 1980, other critics have analyzed his work including: Giulio Carlo Argan , Toni Toniato , Elda Fezzi , Pierre Restany , Lara Vinca Masini , Enrico Crispolti , Umbro Apollonio and Maria Luisa Pavanini who has analyzed and followed his work since 1970 .
