"Nude Orpheus with Owl and Parrot, " Rare Art Deco Bronze Rondel

About the Item

A modern interpretation of the ancient story that Orpheus played the lyre so sweetly and enchantingly that he charmed and calmed wild animals, this Art Deco bronze rondel shows Orpheus with owl and parrot. The nude male figure is beautifully captured, and the birds to either side are lovingly depicted. This is the only example we have ever seen, and though the sculptor's name on the reverse is hard to decipher, it is probably a German piece.
