Polo Pony Diamond Brooch

About the Item

This charming brooch takes the form of a polo jockey on a galloping golden horse. The pin is encrusted with a multitude of round brilliant colored diamonds certified by the Gemological Institute of America. In total, approximately 18.00 carats of natural fancy colored diamonds form the horse. Crafted of green, white and black enamel, the polo player bears the number "1" and "BOEHM" on his back. The entire creation is set in 18K yellow gold. The sophisticated brooch is further distinguished by prestigious provenance, once owned by the revered self-made businesswoman and "Princess of Porcelain," Helen Boehm. Boehm Porcelain produced fine porcelain sculpture masterpieces that attracted the patronage of royalty, politicians and celebrities alike, including Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, Sophia Loren and every U.S. president from Eisenhower to Obama. A lover of horses, Helen Boehm sponsored the Boehm Palm Beach Polo Team and the Boehm Polo Team of England. When Prince Charles played for her team in a charity match in 1985, he wore the team's green jerseys with the number "1," just as the jockey in this jeweled brooch — giving the treasure an added layer of prestige. 3" high x 3 3/8" wide

The firm built a devoted clientele, including members of the Romanov Imperial family, for whom they crafted their most precious pieces and the firm’s celebrated Easter eggs. By Trifari
    Located in Easton, PA
Florentine finish goldtone polo mallet with pave faux-black diamond riding helmet brooch with security clasp. Marked crown "Trifari." Measures: 3 1/4 inches long by 1/2 inch. Excellent condition. This is a remake of a design which was first advertised in Mademoiselle magazine in 1937. This brooch was featured in a 1959 advertisement. Trifari is an American jewelry company founded in 1925 which sold costume jewelry to the middle to high end market. In 1930, Alfred Philippe, an immigrant from France, joined the company and became its lead designer. Philippe in his previous position in Paris had collaborated with Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, which influenced his designs for Trifari. In the 1930s, Trifari's jewelry was frequently used in Broadway productions. Their designs were also popular in Europe, owned by the Countess of Polignac as well as madame Lanvin's daughter and the director of Lanvin. Trifari also designed two sets of faux-pearl jewelry for Mamie Eisenhower. In 1955, Trifari won a landmark lawsuit protecting its copyrighted designs which were being copied by other costume jewelry companies. Early jewelry, jewelry featured in advertisements, or by well-known designers like Diane Love, Kunio...
