Hand-signed and with C.A. Jouge collection stamp. Thick sheet stuck on cardboard.
Auguste François-Marie Gorguet (1862-1927), was a French artist. Painter of mythological composition, genre scene, portraits, landscapes, murals, tapestries boxes, designer, illustrator.
He was a pupil of Gustave Boulanger, Jean Léon Geròme and Léon Bonnat at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He obtained a travel grant in 1894, he then visited Italy, Spain and North Africa. From 1883, he exhibited at the Paris Salon, obtaining a second class medal in 1894 and a silver medal in 1900, for the Universal Exhibition.
He was made knight of the Legion of Honor. He made tapestries for the Manufacture des Gobelins, in Paris, and murals for various public buildings.
He illustrated Pierre Cornelie, Victor Hugo, Anatole France and Alphinse Daudet.
