Sullo sfondo di un paesaggio dai tratti centro-settentrionali europei-in cui si riconoscono una cappella e il profilo di una città dagli alti pinnacoli-si svolge una scena di svago, in cui dei bambini si dilettano a giocare a bocce con le mani, mentre abbandonate in primo piano stanno delle mazze che ricordano il gioco del croquet. Insieme a loro una un religioso, probabilmente un gesuita come si può notare dalla veste scura da cui fuoriesce il colletto bianco, segno che siamo in un momento ricreativo di un collegio o di una scuola.
La carta vergellata presenta una filigrana con scudo, giglio di Strasburgo sormontata da corona gigliata, tipica delle cartiere all'antica provincia francese Angoumois, molto diffusa presso gli artisti di area francese, inglese e fiamminga.
