About the Item
Dupendant is a fun caricature realized by an anonymous artist of the late 19th century.
The small drawing was applied and framed on a gray piece of paper measuring 28 x 18 cm. A small piece of paper is glued on the lower center with the writing “Dupendant”. The state of preservation is very good, except for some stains of dirt and a light fungal foxing.
The artist Dupendant was born in 1835, little is known about him. It is uncertain whether Dupendant is the artist of the artwork or the portrayed character in the caricature. Certainly, the artwork is beautiful, graceful, and amusing. The character is portrayed standing up in three quarters holding a cap.
A lovely 19th-century drawing typical of the French environment of the time.
