In quite good condition : foxings inthe upper part, a scratch in the lower part, slughtly yellowed by time (see photographs please)
In a vintage frame : 28.5 x 36.5 cm
Edmond Yon was born in Montmartre, which at that time was still an independent village that was not attached to Paris until 1860. He lived and died there too.
This terrace is therefore most probably the terrace of his house.
The slope of the land is very characteristic of the topography of Montmartre.
Yon's watercolours are quite rare, it is interesting to see that he practised watercolour as an oil painter, which is evident in his technique of broad strokes.
It is thus an intimate testimony of the life and art of this artist.
Edmond Charles Joseph YON (1836-1897)
This Parisian artist was a landscape painter, watercolourist, engraver and illustrator. He specialised in river views.
Edmond Yon was a pupil of Pouget and Lequien. He participated in the Paris Salon in 1865, then in the Salon des Artistes Français. He won several awards and a gold medal in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition. He was also the author of numerous woodcuts for book illustrations. He was promoted to Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1886.
His paintings can be seen in many French museums, among them the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
