Henry Robertson ARE, The Beach At Hastings

c. 1910

About the Item

This early 20th-century watercolour by English artist Henry Robertson (1848-1930) depicts the beach at Hastings. Nets sprawl from a dormant fishing boat before dapples of beachfront buildings. The misty tints of cliffs punctuated by masts. Robertson loved it here and lived just a few minutes up the road. He often pitched up on the sand to capture the view at different times of the day. Here, we see him working quickly with an impressionistic spirit before the light changes. Held within a later frame and glazed.
