Jolanta Johnsson, experienced Polish artist, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, PhD of fine arts, university teacher. She currently lives in Sweden.
This is how she writes about the piece:
"Rainfall at night is a welcome phenomenon. We don’t like it when it rains during the day. Then it complicates our lives. We have to dress in rainwear, wear wellingtons and don’t forget our umbrella. These accessories are not convenient. Of course, we know that rain is necessary. Rainwater is a source of life for plants and animals. And when it doesn’t rain for a long time we start to worry. A threatening word emerges – drought. Unfortunately, this drought is spreading more and more. Then the warm and sunny weather no longer pleases us so much. Then we say to ourselves – let it rain at last, even during the day. And when the rain starts to fall, we put up our umbrellas again. Sometimes we forget to take them with us, problems arise again. I am sitting on my veranda. I listen to the rain, draw rainfall, creating my rainfall art in form of this rainfall drawing. The best thing is rainfall at night. The round moon seen through the raindrops has something magical about it. Night paintings are a separate category in painting. We call them nocturnes. Here is my nocturne drawing."

Jolanta Johnsson
Jolanta Johnsson is a Polish painter, who was born in 1955. She studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the years 1984–89, in the graphic studios of professor Halina Chrostowska and professor Rafal Strent and the painting studio of professor Jerzy Tchorzewski. She gained a Ph.D. in visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 2012. Currently, she runs a graphic arts and design workshop at the European Faculty of Arts at the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business. Her works have been exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including in the United States, Sweden, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Greece.

As the sun sets, its round disc descends towards the horizon to eventually disappear behind it completely. This is when it changes colors, which become more and more intense. This spectacle is always interesting, each time different. No two sunsets are the same. One day it was so beautiful that it inspired me to make this drawing. That day was today, so I titled it Sunset Today. It is a symbolic title. It acts as a kind of reminder – the sun will also be set today. Today is also the day to watch the sun wander over the horizon. Don’t miss it! When we are surrounded by trees, the horizon line is collapsed. As the sun sets, it hides in their branches.
