"Bingo" -- Abstract painting by Aimée Farnet Siegel on canvas, 2023

2023

About the Item

Driven by her love of materials and process, New Orleans artist Aimée Farnet Siegel works with color, line, and form through the building and manipulation of paper, paint, and canvas. Siegel received her BFA from Louisiana State University and later studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. Her non-objective two and three-dimensional works swing from monochromatic to multicolored with painted and collaged line work creating pattern and shape. Inspired by typography with a deep-rooted connection to the grid, Siegel’s graphic design background is evident in "Bingo". Using found paper and acrylic on canvas, "Bingo" provides a fresh look at her renowned style and technique. Her work has been exhibited nationally in galleries, institutions, art fair, and alternative spaces nationwide. Most notably, in 2019 Siegel presented an independent site-specific installation in conversation with works in the international group show Hinge Picture at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans – concurrent with her premier solo exhibition at the gallery. Siegel’s work appears in numerous public and private collections across the country. In 2020 she completed a 48-piece commission for the Four Seasons Hotel, New Orleans and most recently three pieces were acquired for the corporate collection of Morgan Stanley. Her work also appears in the collections of: Walda and Sydney Besthoff, Andrea Andersson and John Cable, Emily and Robert Clay, Dathel and Tommy Coleman, Jennifer and Dennis Lauscha, and Hy’s Steakhouse, Toronto.

  • French Mixed Media Abstract on Canvas.
    Located in Cotignac, FR
Colourful, French mixed media abstract, acrylic, newsprint and ink from the 1980s. The canvas is signed and dated bottom right but we have not yet managed to decipher it. A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele. The background of the painting has been worked broadly with a palette knife whilst the detail has been added quickly and deftly with ink or finer brushstrokes. With the addition of newsprint (in French) the artist may...

We were two boys and six girls in the family. The most mundane things were magical and special to me. I liked to draw, color, make things, and plant things.
