The Crucible Beyond the Western Desert, Original Post-Modern Collage

2023

About the Item

The Crucible Beyond the Western Desert 24.0 x 17.5 x 3.0, 10.0 lbs Mixed Media Hand signed by artist Artist's Commentary: "10,000 years ago the area that is known now as the Sahara was a verdant landscape crossed with streams, wetlands, ponds, and lakes. It was a vibrant ecosystem bustling with animal life of all kinds and the Neolithic people of that area hunted and gathered very well. Millennia later an orbital shift would cause the climate change to the area that the Ancient Egyptians called the Western Desert, the western bank of the Nile being a land of chaos, sandstorms, heat, domain of wandering Set, inhabited by the dead. A crucible is a container used for chemistry to alter materials, generally under heat and pressure. In the drying period, when rain became more scarce, people followed their animal game and water sources, some settling in cooperative groups at the edges of the Nile, Indus, Euphrates, or Yellow Rivers. TL,DR: Catastrophic circumstance creates change and in time previously unexpected opportunity." About the Artist: Ian Hermès Babylon (he/they) is an artist whose home is on the lands of the Neponset band of the Indigenous Massachusetts peoples. He creates historic, mythic, archetypically Jungian surrealist collage from any and every thing. Source materials from the late 20th century aim to address the ills of Late/Terminal Stage Capitalism; cut and dismantled, individuated, these pieces are reorganized into pragmatic and open-ended new wholes, places of reflection. His collage are intentioned-meditations for more just and loving ways of being.

  • Cohabitation
    By Evan Stuart Marshall
    Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: In this striking abstract painting, variously sized shapes crowd one another for space. Sometimes they push and squish into each other, sometimes they overlap—a fun, quirky statement about the way we all get along. Brilliant blues, greens, and fuchsias with crisp black outlines make a bold statement. A fun piece that I hope will make people think. Words that describe this piece: quirky, blue, red, magenta, black Details about the piece: This is a hand-painted, original acrylic painting. Professional grade acrylic paints on canvas. Wired and ready to hang. Signed on the back. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
