DIMENSIONS: H: 30" W: 24" As a child, Collado traveled between social structures: from Brooklyn, New York where she was born; to the Dominican Republic; to Miami, where her mother worked to become a tailor. Her use of construction materials summons the perception of a displaced personal and public history. She is a Caribbean African American artist with a Feminist leaning. In her practice, Collado displays an awareness of language conveyed through a keen analysis of identity, the latter referenced in her use of reclaimed literary texts and textiles, simultaneously opposed by various construction materials: wood, concrete, masonry brick, iron, and drywall. Materials with inherent geographic histories, processes, and economies imply varying degrees of personalized and public memory. "My connections are grounded to an alternate imagination: a Caribbean imagination and an alchemic consciousness. The Dominican Republic is a culturally rich country. Our musical narratives, folkloric traditions, oral histories, spiritual and supernatural beliefs are complex and embedded in our everyday life. All these components shaped my perceptions, sensibilities, and life experiences. I am always seeing the world through a Caribbean lens". Her artist residency fellowships include Bridge Red Art Center, North Miami, FL (2013-present), Project Row Houses, Houston, TX (2018), Oolite Arts, Miami Beach, FL (2019 – present), and the Joan Mitchell Foundation residency in New Orleans, LA (2020). She was awarded a South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship in 2021, and Ellie Creator Grant from Oolite in 2019, first place in the 2013 South Florida Biennial at the Art and Cultural Center/Hollywood, FL, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship in 2018. Tim White-Sobieski Alpha LV, 2005 Unique photo print on canvas 42 X 30 in Tim White Sobieski has been commissioned by LVMH multiple times, and in 2005, was invited to create an artwork for the new Louis Vuitton Flagship Store on Champs-Elysees in Paris alongside artists James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson. The project consisted of a 24-meter programmed fiber-optics video wall. Another colossal video wall was installed at the Petit Palais for the celebration of the launch. This was a unique cooperation of the three artists. In 2006, the Louis Vuitton Company invited Tim White-Sobieski back to participate in an exhibition entitled "Icons", an interpretation of the iconic logo-bags. Other artists included Marc Jacobs, Zaha Hadid, Ugo Rondinone, Sylvie Fleury, Shigeru Ban, Robert Wilson and Andrée Putman. From trunks to leather bags to wine holders, their styles have traveled across time and fashion, becoming classics that never look old. With the genius of Marc Jacobs, these icons have entered new domains where art and fashion are directly linked. Tim White is a video and installation artist based in New York and Berlin. He was educated as an architect and dedicated himself to visual art and filmmaking, exploring the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, video, video installations and light installations throughout his career. He began showing in New York in the early 1990s with his "Blue Paintings." Emphasis on the role of the subconscious in his paintings had affinities with visual abstractionism and literary existentialism. He has consistently been at the technological forefront of video and light art, being called a "video maverick" and "an abstract "'painter of motion.'" Tim White-Sobieski was born in 1961 and emigrated to the United States in 1993. He attended New York University and Parsons School of Design before embarking on a career in art. Much of his work draws from literary work that has inspired the artist, and he has often featured icons of American literature in his installations. Writers such as Walt Whitman, John Steinbeck, John Updike, Kurt Vonnegut, J.D. Salinger, William Faulkner, and Robert Penn Warren all have a permanent presence in Tim White-Sobieski’s oeuvre. Kevin Larmon was born in Syracuse, New York in 1955. He grew up on a small horse farm. Larmon's mother was a school secretary while his father was a construction worker. He graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and moved to New York City as an undergraduate senior, where he finished his schooling at the New York Studio School. In the late 1970s, Larmon played guitar for Mudmen, a three piece band in the East Village of New York City with Craig Gillis playing bass, Mike Caffes playing drums, and percussionist Jill Burkhart. Mudmen played in venues such as CBGB, Danceteria, A7 (bar), Pyramid Club, Mudd Club, and The Limelight. Larmon started making still life paintings in 1979. He has also worked with atmospheric drawings and paintings since 1989, many of which are made on canvas or wood. In 2009, he began to paint his cell paintings. Larmon's paintings are built up through layers of collage and paint. Most famously, Larmon's work includes collages of gay male pornography that have been painted over with images that exist somewhere in between abstraction and form. These images are often anatomical. Conceptually, Larmon's work deals with issues such as the male body image and fascist culture. Similarly, Larmon's drawings on wood deal with ambiguously anatomical and abstracted forms. His work has been associated with the post-conceptualism and neo-conceptual art movements, which were prominent aspects of exhibitions at Gallery Nature Morte and with Tricia Collins and Richard Milazzo shaping the nature of painting after the rise of conceptual art. Larmon was also associated with Feature Inc., a gallery that was first established in Chicago in 1984. In August 1988, the gallery's director, known as Hudson, moved Feature Inc. to New York City. Larmon's first exhibition with Feature Inc. occurred in 1987 in Chicago, Illinois. Over the years, Hudson and Larmon would work together on many exhibitions. As a young artist, Larmon spent his Thursdays working to sustain Gallery Nature Morte together with the gallery owners, Alan Becher and Peter Nagy, when the gallery existed in New York City. Larmon was heavily influenced by his contemporaries at Gallery Nature Morte such as Robin Weglinski, Joel Otterson, and Steven Parrino. Other influential artists include Oliver Wasow, Robert Gober, Nancy Shaver, Carter Hodgkin, and Steven Wolfe. Larmon also drew inspiration from Rembrandt, Giorgio Morandi, Jackson Pollock, and Agnes Martin. During his time as a professor at Syracuse University, Larmon made an impact on many emerging artists including Deborah Roberts and Paul Weiner. Larmon participated in Aperto 86 at the 1986 Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy, where his paintings were exhibited at the Corderie at the Arsenal. From 1983–2013, Larmon was invited to exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York; Feature Inc, New York, New York; Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, Arizona; the University Art Museum at the University of California, Berkeley; the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut; Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Visual Arts Museum, New York, New York; the Morris Museum, Morristown, New Jersey; Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, now the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio; Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, Colorado; Jersey City Museum, Jersey City, New Jersey; and the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
