Artist's Commentary:
"This handmade paper piece related to stuff that is found in the ground. The cellulose of the handmade paper relates to decomposing fallen leaves that become soil. Found in that 'soil' are images of trash across time, busted plastic bottles, broken pipes and broken arrows. Along with trash, are fungus and roots that are part of natures ecology below ground."
About the Artist:
Margaret Craig received a degree in Biology Secondary Education, a BS in Art and an MA in Painting from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She received an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Texas at San Antonio. An innovator in printmaking techniques, she invented Tar Gel Pressless Etching. She is included in many public and private collections including the Library of Congress. She is Professor Emeritus of Printmaking and Paper at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, TX. She has one husband, one bird, five cats, one spastic puppy, and a mess of grown stepchildren. Her original college degree in biology has been a major influence in both the visual and ecological context of her work. The work is rooted in the symbiotic ecostructure we all precariously live in, and involves an elaborate, possibly excessive, process that (re)cycles the original post-consumer paper and plastic through several art forms and media, including acrylic, watercolor, printmaking, papermaking and installation sculpture.

STATEMENT My art is a contemplation of the ways we affect the plants and animals around us, and how we may be affected by them. I approach this both from a biology background as well as from artistic printmaking methodologies. My intent is to create work that will engender thought about the relationship between humans and their surroundings. Underlying imagery for me is about other worlds, and the portals between; worlds under the microscope or among the stars, drains, conduits and black holes. My recent interpretation involves plastic, which I repurpose and evolve into creatures which might one day populate the congregation of trash in the ocean gyres. This is not without precedent. The bacteria, ideonella sakainsis, eats plastic. This thinking about plastic has led me to think about what humans in the past have left behind. What has been the environmental result? These are messages about human history and the future and human expansion to the cosmos. BIOGRAPHY Margaret Craig received a degree in Biology Secondary Education, a BS in Art and an MA in Painting from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She later received an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Texas at San Antonio . She invented Tar Gel Pressless Etching and combines it with innovative and traditional printmaking techniques. Craig has demonstrated her process at SCG and MAPC conferences. She is often involved in trade portfolios and exhibits locally and nationally; most recently the Pandemic Print Portfolio Project and the Blue Star Contemporary Berlin Residency. Currently she is Chair of P Printmaking at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, TX. Her original Biology degree has been a major influence in the visual and ecological context of her work, and her shop promotes a less toxic approach to printmaking. margaretcraig.com

- Untitled #2/ Tied series, Handmade Abstract SculptureBy Yoonshin ParkLocated in Boston, MAUntitled #2/ Tied series 10.0 x 16.0 x 0.5, 1.0 lbs Handmade paper Hand signed by artist Artist's Commentary: "'Tied', the title of the installation series, is a phonetic pun on the rising tides and the paper pages bound by threads. As the water rises and falls, pages of our daily experience add and subtract to and from our memory. Our daily life permeates our memory just as the ink is absorbed into each page and create new shapes and patterns onto what once was a clean slate of a blank page." About the Artist: Yoonshin Park is a Chicago based multimedia artist, curator, and educator working with sculptural papers, artist books, and installations. Her interest in the comprehensive process of papermaking and bookbinding caters her work to encompass various elements woven into complete objects. She often uses her experience as a foreign transplant to question space and its implications in defining one's identity as the inspiration behind her work. Park has shown at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Hyde Park Art Center...Category

- Fractured ToonBy Mark LemboLocated in Boston, MAAbout the piece: Happy accident(s). Chaos amid the order? Words that describe this piece:panels, comics, structure, chaos, cartoon Artist Biography: Mark A. Lembo Script M Abstract Art Mark’s dynamic work blurs the distinction between alcohol ink and watercolor - working with dyes, inks, liquid acrylic, liquid watercolor, and other aqueous media; lately, he has been incorporating metallic watercolor and pearlescent ink to his work. He has used canvas, synthetic Yupo™ paper, Yasutomo Mineral Paper, and various watercolor papers. Mark’s journey into the world of creative arts started with the question, “What would Jackson Pollock’s work look like if he had used transparent watercolors?” So, it was out with the pencils, pens, and brushes, and on to the pouring of various aqueous solutions. While mostly self-taught, Mark took a series of classes at the Creative Arts Group, Sierra Madre, CA, under Joe Stoddard, as well as seminars with Robert Burridge...Category
