Woman, Baked Pigment on Magnesium

About the Item

"Woman'' is a unique mixed media, Baked Pigment on Magnesium by Ophear. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity. This piece is signed and comes ready hang. OPHEAR is an American artist that lives and works in Israel. He channels his ideas through daring art that pushes the boundaries of visual creativity. OPHEAR has a passion and joy for creating a wide variety of images in varied formats, frequently inspired by surrealist, impressionist, pointillist, and even Hindu/Buddhist and tribal art. He uses a mix of digitally created art and photography with creative 3D manipulations and elements to evoke varied responses in the viewer. One category of OPHEAR's art work is the modern day digital pointillism, reminiscent of Seurat, in which he creates impressions of objects such as human or animal eyes and faces. The mind's ability to connect, blend and bend the disparate dots and colors into varied compositions adds another dimension to the art. Working on large sheets of magnesium, the pigment is printed on sheet of metal before being placed into an industrial oven. This technique of "pigment infused metal" gives an illusion of depth and vibrancy to each image. "The Unfiltered Series", projects an unavoidable part of human behavior that is at the core of its very own existence. The unfiltered human experience can sometimes suggest a darker side which is more common than not, rooted within the primitive brain and the instinctual self. The body of work is also a refreshing depiction of openness, purity and authenticity. It is depicted in dots that soften the context thus lessening the viewer's instinctive tendency to recoil. It projects sensuality, female empowerment, evolving sexual preferences and contemporary behavioral observations in a rich display of dynamic human interplay and beauty.

  • Checkmate, inscribed copper sheet, acrylic paint, asphaltum, ink, metal frame
    Located in Toronto, Ontario
CHECKMATE by Rocky Dobey is a hand-inscribed copper sheet with black ink, acrylic paint, and asphaltum. It is framed in aluminum and measures 108 x 48”. It features some of the artist’s notable motifs – the number 13-1/2 (refers to 12 jurors, 1 judge, half a chance), a monstrous tower of brick with crenelated towers, inlaid with eyes, hooked daggers and barred windows, clouds with lightening bolts, tongues of flame drifting down... Though the swirl of black cloud near the top of the tower also rewards our attention – the engraving here suggesting floral as well as cosmic patterns, biological patterns. Checkmate also contains more subtle mark-making and ritualized ornamentation, such as the wheat sheafs across the expanse of copper, names of people are inscribed in the borders of the tower, vertical hash marks counting off months or years in bundles of five. For over 40 years, outsider artist Rocky Dobey has been producing intaglio prints, etched metal plaques, engraved copper sheets and site-specific public sculptures. Working anonymously for the first two decades, his work has drawn attention to social and political issues like prison and justice reform, neighborhood gentrification, globalization, indigenous sovereignty, drug rehabilitation and homelessness. With striking imagery of demonic towers toppled in flames, horrific machines and cryptic symbols of oppression, Rocky's work soon became a recognized and sought-after stamp of organized resistance. Several of his prints are held in collections, particularly the “Carnival Against Capitalism” poster he produced for the 2001 Quebec City protests against the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Rocky’s poster...
