About the Item

from the smoke and ash - Abstract tantric stain painting, acrylic on raw canvas by contemporary artist Elisa Niva33 inches x 29 inches. One of the main inspirations of this soak-stain painting series is the book 'Tantra Song' which features Raghestani tantric meditation paintings. Earthy textures is juxtaposed against graphic, modern shapes. This large fluid abstract work is inspired by the idea of destruction of a wildfire making way for rebirth. The contrast of the charred and worn effect with the pops of color and the rising oval figure above the char representing the natural worlds process of starting anew after destruction. My cat actually bears a signature on this work, on the upper right corner you can see a tentative paw tap. A happy accident that is one of my favorite touches to this work. Dark and light, bright and muted colors interplay on the canvas. Elisa's intuitive works start off as stain painting, with the paint going into and even through the canvas. Her work is characterized by and interplay of bright colors balances with earthy nuetrals. Elisa is inspired by depicting unseen energies and emotions onto canvas, leaning into the beauty of happy accidents, organic flow, texture, detrition and layered sheer washes. This artwork is signed by the artist, unframed.
