Hachiro Kanno
Permanescence TN694-T by Hachiro Kanno - Calligraphy-based abstract painting

2016

About the Item

Permanescence TN694-T is a unique triptych painting by Japanese contemporary artist Hachiro Kanno. The painting is made with ink and acrylic on canvas. It is composed by 3 panels, total dimensions are 100 x 195 cm (39.4 × 76.8 in), each panel measures 100 x 65 cm (39.4 × 25,6 in). This piece of art is in the abstract register and is inspired by Japanese calligraphy. Only black, white and blue are used in this acrylic and ink painting. The painter's gestures can be seen in the bold yet graceful brushstrokes that are easily visible. The painting appears to radiate energy due to the contrast between the dark background and the blue, which the artist chose to be a very brilliant and vibrant shade of. Hachiro Kanno arrived in France in 1968 to complete his studies at the Paris School of Fine Arts. In 1979, he moved into the Bateau-Lavoir in Montmartre and has been there ever since. Coming from a long line of traditional calligraphers and raised in the Shinto religion, Kanno transposes timeless themes into abstract, in a more up-to-date and universal way organized around the positive and the negative.
