Kristy Chettle
'Lotus' by Kristy Chettle - Bright Textured Abstract Lotus Flower Painting

2017

About the Item

"Lotus" is a striking oil painting by Kristy Chettle, sized at 48" x 60". It bursts with bold colors and movement, true to the abstract expressionist style it represents. Warm reds, oranges, and yellows swirl around the canvas, drawing the eye inward, much like the petals of a lotus flower. Streaks of blue and white cut through the warmth, adding contrast and depth. The painting feels alive, full of energy and the promise of new beginnings, just like the lotus flower that rises from the mud each day. The artist has layered the paint in a way that makes you want to reach out and touch the vibrant textures. About the Artist: Kristy Chettle is an abstract artist whose tactile approach to painting sets her apart. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1968, Chettle forgoes traditional brushes and palette knives, favoring the intimate connection of painting with her hands. Her works are characterized by deep textures, vibrant complimentary colors, and layers that carry a visceral sense of motion and raw emotion. Each piece is a reflection of her journey, interwoven with messages of environmental care and self-empowerment. Influenced by the likes of Picasso and Van Gogh, she strives to bring similar depth and life to her paintings. Her commitment to a green practice extends to using reclaimed wood and recycled canvases, minimizing her ecological footprint. Chettle's art, a vivid exploration of nature and transformation, resonates with those who seek expressive, meaningful compositions. “Kristy is a unique master, her technique is quite authentic and inspiring: All of Kristy’s works are painted with her bare hands. There are no brushes or palette knives used, which adds to the immediacy and rawness of the painting.” –Alik Elzafon, American Art Gallery, Carmel, CA 1-of-1, available at the American Art Gallery, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Alan Fenton (1927 - 2000) Untitled, 1958-1960 Oil on canvas 90 x 84 inches Fenton's quiet and contemplative nonobjective paintings and drawings were widely recognized for their demanding yet understated means of revealing a serious and sober essence. He identified greatly with Mark Rothko, a friend, as well as Adolph Gottlieb and Jack Tworkov, with whom he had studied privately. Fenton painted in New York City in the late 50's as the explosion of Abstract Expressionism turned into a rebellion against gestural, emotional painting. More concerned about his art than his posture, he expanded upon a tradition in painting with influences as diverse as Whistler and Turner as well as Ad Reinhardt and Joseph Albers. Alan Fenton was born in Cleveland in 1927, studied at the Cleveland School of Art, The Arts Students League, The New School, and at NYU, earning his BFA at Pratt Institute, where he later taught painting for many years. At seventeen, Fenton served in the Merchant Marines where he began a career as a professional boxer, a skill he had honed on the streets. He moved successfully through the graphic design business en route to becoming a painter in New York at the height of the art revolution of the fifties and sixties. Fenton enjoyed success with his subtle washes and pencil drawings as well as large abstract...
