About the Item
One of a large series of brilliantly colored small square Abstract Expressionist paintings, measuring 8" x 8" each, by Linda Holt whose fluid style and gorgeous palette come together to beautifully create this sparkling, lush body of work. Colors are shades of lavender, white, aqua and yellow.
Holt has an exquisite sense of color and a masterful touch. Though quite sophisticated these works shimmer with a playful and delightful presence. The paint surface is heavy impasto.
Individual paintings stand on their own perfectly or can be dramatically installed as groupings - usually in horizontal or vertical rows - with pairings of 2, a small group of 3 or 4, or larger grids of approximately 5 - 25 works. Paintings are often shown with about 6 inches of space in between but can be spaced closer or wider apart, a flexible decision made to accommodate different wall situations.

Paintings are unframed and framing is unnecessary as the sides are painted white:

Linda Holt also considers these 8" x 8" canvases as studies for commissioned works that can be scaled up in any size, price on request. In addition to the 8" x 8's there are several 30" x 30" abstractions currently available.
Linda Holt was raised in Philadelphia and lived in England, Alabama and Virginia before attending the Paris American High School and graduating from Skidmore College with a BS in fine art in 1970. She received an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania where she studied with Neil Welliver. Holt’s paintings have been seen in 19 one-person exhibitions, over 50 group exhibitions, and in addition to numerous private collections, works are included in many public collections including the Wichita Center for the Arts, Wellington Management, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Fidelity Investments, Mass General Hospital, and the Seaport and Reef Hotels.
Selected reviews include articles in “The Boston Globe,” “Art New England,” and the “Houston Chronicle.” She was awarded the Nathaniel Saltonstall Purchase Prize in Drawing, has been a Trustee and Visiting Artist at Montserrat College, a Guest Critic at FIT in New York, and a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania.
The artist resides in Boston and has been represented by the Beth Urdang Gallery since 1995.
