About the Item
Nancy Newman Rice was born in New York City and was educated at Cornell University and at Washington University, where she earned a BFA with honors and an MFA. She has received awards that include a National Endowment for the Arts/MMA Fellowship for painting, and nominations for a Tiffany Award and an AVA Award in the Visual Arts. Rice has exhibited her work internationally and her work is included in private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Using Euclidian geometry as the skeleton of the experience is an approach rooted in Art History; Poussin and Cezanne both seized upon this method of pictorial organization through subtle designs and simplified spatial effects. The Sacred Space oil paintings began as an attempt to define the interiors of identifiable architectural structures by inventing elaborate geometric scaffolding to map the space within the confines of each edifice. As the oil paintings evolved the walls disappeared, seemingly erased by time, and what remained was the skeleton of intangible space, in essence, geometry as a sacred artifact.

- "Whispers", Contemporary, Abstract, Oil, Painting, Canvas, Texture, PatternBy Brian SmithLocated in St. Louis, MO“The act of painting is a vital experience. I see my art as a record of the subconscious and the painting process. The result is an interaction of imagined forms and spaces. Each work is intuitively developed through a personal method and logic. The reactions I have to the natural world and to the art that inspires me inform their meaning. Unique arrangements of colors, marks and textures are fundamental characteristics of my art. When integrated they convey a dazzling optical effect and a spirited emotional quality. The sensuous characteristics of paint make these aspects arresting, and the images themselves are distinctly abstract.” Selected Collections Wells Fargo Advisors, St. Louis, MO Macy’s Department Stores: St. Louis, MO; Houston, TX; Columbia, MO; Independence, MO; Franklin, TN Emerson Electric, St. Louis, MO Washington University...Category

- "Echo 1", Pair of Impressionist Style Oil Painting on Canvas, Waterscape DiptychBy Jill HackneyLocated in St. Louis, MO"A native of New Orleans, Jill Hackney studied painting at The Cleveland Institute of Art and Louisiana State University, where she earned her BFA. She is a founding member and twice president of Studio 801, an artists’ cooperative in Baton Rouge. She was also recently selected as a Fellow of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for her work as President of the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. Best known for her still life and landscape work, her focus is to show light’s impact on her subjects through layers of vertical and linear strokes. Using the natural texture of the wood on which she paints, each painting is approached with a sense of nostalgia. The end effect is a union of the senses, which awakens feelings of joy, serenity, and peace. Jill currently functions as the Director of International Communications for NUNU Arts and Culture Collective." "Echo 1", Pair of Impressionist...Category
