An modern abstract painting in acrylic on canvas by North Carolina based artist, Novi Lim. The artist is inspired by organic forms found in nature. The fluid brush strokes and swirling forms are signature to Novi's style. This work features a soft color palette of taupe, gray, blue, and green. Undulating lines and bold swaths of paint give this work a dynamism and energy, while the inclusion of a faux-horizon and a small pink orb allude to this as an abstracted landscape. Small gold accents are included throughout, including with the artist's signature in the bottom right-hand corner.

"I like to transport my mind to a calming place, inspired by memories, and complex organic elements found in nature. Playing with colors and movement, creating new compositions -- my best work comes when there is freedom to create without any strict plan. With intuition and spontaneity taking over, the result is often a surprise. To me, everything flows, and there is always a sense of balance and harmony that can emerge out of disorder. I love the ambiguous and mysterious nature of abstraction. Through self-discovery and experimentation, I am allowing dynamic energy that manifests through the joy of creating. The result is loose interpretations of anything that exists between the mind and reality, therefore each painting is unique and sometimes inexplicable."
About the Artist:
I like to capture the essence and subtle elements of the natural world. In my process, I let the freedom of movement takes shape-- with soft curves, edges, and rhythmic brushstrokes. The initial flow of movement comes instinctively, followed by the delicate stage of contemplation, detailed work, and layering of different techniques to achieve textural contrast, dimension, and depth. Art is the most natural way for me to translate my inner perceptions to realities, the sensation of creating something with my hands feels grounding, and invigorating. Often, imagining a burst of petals that blooms and lit up in the nighttime, or seeing something as simple as the calming gradient of the colorful sky at sundown, or the surface of water that glimmers make me wonder about the mystery of the deepest oceans -- piqued my creative process and subliminal stimuli. At the core, I am more interested in the sensorial and experiential aspects of feelings and processes. It is a collaborative event of constructing my vision and letting go of inhibition in the pursuit of harmony. Following the curiosity. embracing the unknown, and drawing out what's hidden inside into something physical really gratifies me. Working with acrylics, immediacy is an important factor in the process and it helps to retain a spontaneous quality that I love. I also enjoy dynamic line work, atmospheric use of translucent effects, and a play of light and dark to give each of my works a quiet intensity.

I found my most true and liberated self in exploring the beauty of ambiguity. I like to capture the essence and subtle elements of the natural world, water, air, particles, energy, space -- giving the viewers the freedom of interpretation or creating their own narrative if they choose to do so. For me, art is a therapeutic way to drift into an imaginary land where I can set expressions free and let go of my subconscious through tactile movements and the fascinating play of color, texture, and natural chemistry that happens between mediums. I enjoy the flow of motion that comes instinctually and the layering process that is delicate. It's important for me to retain a spontaneous quality. Sometimes, I want to evoke the noir mood of melancholy, strength, opulence, and nostalgia in my paintings. Often, imagining a mythical flower that blooms and lit up in the nighttime, or seeing something as simple as the calming gradient of the colorful sky at sundown, or the surface of water that glimmers which makes me wonder about the mystery of the deepest oceans -- piqued my creative process and subliminal stimuli. At the core, I am more interested in the sensorial and experiential aspects of feelings and processes. It is a collaborative event of constructing my vision and letting go of inhibition in the pursuit of balance and harmony. Adding my own markings or oriental elements is something that's embedded in my identity and muscle memory. Working with acrylics, immediacy is an important factor, I also enjoy line work and atmospheric use of light and dark.

Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York.
