About the Item

Artist Comments
Many layers of circular shapes painted in deeply saturated colors. Pink, red, purple, blue, green and yellow contrast and blend together in textured unison.

About the Artist
Ruth-Anne Siegel's vibrant floral paintings flow from memory and her love of music. As she works, she references her own photographs and sketchbook, and draws energy from the sounds of Etta James, Marvin Gaye, and Pete Townshend. Her paintings begin with a layer of collaged book pages chosen for their fonts. She continues by adding many transparent layers of paint to build the mood of the scene. Ruth-Anne grew up on Long Island and from a very young age knew that she wanted to be an artist. Her parents encouraged her artistic interests by frequently visiting the various museums and galleries in New York. She later attended the Rhode Island School of Design and developed a successful career as a graphic designer in New York and now in the San Francisco Bay Area. After the birth of her third child, she returned her focus to fine art and began studying again through Stanford University continuing education classes. Now that her children are almost grown, she focuses her energy on creating her lively paintings in her standalone purple studio in her backyard. When she’s not painting, she enjoys reading fiction, skiing and hiking. "Mostly, I love to drink really good coffee while doing any of these activities, especially with my family," Ruth-Anne says with a smile.

  • Let Beauty Now Be What We Do, Abstract Painting
    By Joyanna Margo
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
An abstract bouquet of red and pink flowers dance in a yellow vase, inspired by the color and patterning of art nouveau prints. Part of Joyanna's signature series of 'negative space' floral scenes. "The story they tell is that joy can grow from any beginning - whether sad, happy, angry or empowered," she says. Joyanna begins each painting with vibrant color work and then completes the art by adding the negative space that defines her whimsical bouquets and gardens.

  • Sea Foam, Abstract Painting
    By DL Watson
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
A flowing abstraction representing water rushing across beach sand. Artist DL Watson played up the light in the scene using hints of metallic gold and silver paint.

    About the Artist
DL Watson creates semi-abstract paintings with floral and botanical references. Splitting her time between Florida and Oregon, she finds inspiration in the patterns that repeat themselves throughout the natural world. While her paintings are often grounded in her own childhood memories and past experiences, they evoke a beauty that is universal in their natural subject matter. She creates interest and intrigue through the color and movement that she uses to balance her composition.

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...
