About the Item
In this dramatic and lyrical abstract composition by Montreal-based artist Shireen Kamran rich, dark colours—Prussian blue, ochre and dove grey contrast with muted whites and a touch of red. Kamran’s work—in form and colour is influenced by the paintings of fabled abstract artists such as De Kooning and Picasso. The title of this piece refers to the idea that a combination of parts can work together to create something more powerful than might be achieved by individual elements. Kamran honours her Pakistani heritage in her paintings and often references a form of Islamic mysticism called Sufi. One of a series.

She received a BSc. degree from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan and a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal. Her work is held in private collections in Canada and abroad. Shireen Kamran
Shireen Kamran creates lyrical and dramatic works reflecting restless mobility, a sensitivity to cultural displacement, and a memory of people and places. Her abstract layered forms may bring to mind silhouetted architecture, minarets and towers. Kamran's titles refer to shared layers and lineages of human experience. Kamran received a B.Sc. degree from the University of Peshawer and a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal.
