About the Item

"By placing figures into fantastical landscapes, I allow the viewer a glimpse into what might be reality, or not. This practice allows me to push the boundaries of what a past/present/future reality means. Ultimately, this is all a foil for me to express my love, joy, and passion for materials and patterns. By choosing banal "ingredients" I attempt to transform everyday objects into something sublime. House paint, scrapbooking paper, wallpaper, xeroxes, etc... it all makes it way through my paintings. Repetition is key to my work, as I strive to convey a sense of immediacy, yet still, a contemplative experience that each viewer can achieve. Through the multiplicity of dots and a seamless integration of collage, I create paintings that do indeed force the viewer to question what is real, and what is not."

  • Protect Our Winter
    By Jennifer Lowe
    Located in Denver, CO
This is a mixed media painting on paper done in an illustrative style. It is set in a winter forest. The birch trees are set in an almost pattern like composition. There are several animals in the piece, including deer, foxes, wolves, ferrets, bunnies, and owls. The painting is titled "Protect Our Winters" after a group dedicated to protecting Montana's environment from climate change. Jennifer Lowe has combined the landscapes, animals and the people of her native Montana with a unique approach to painting. Born in Missoula, Jennifer spent parts of her childhood working in the fields of her grandparent's homestead property in Montana's Grasshopper Valley. Lowe's paintings are rendered in the vivid color and rich texture of livestock markers and capture the whimsical images from her imagination and the memories of her Montana upbringing. Jennifer began using the oil paintsticks in 1985 while a student at Montana State University. Since graduating in 1987, Lowe has been shown alongside such well know western artists as Thorn Ross, Howard Post...

With eight huge hops I vaulted a vast desert of sand dunes, hot sand blew in my eyes, blocked my nostrils and burnt my hooves. With nine large leaps I scaled a stone wall that stretched to the skies, the cold grey lumps seemed to penetrate my heart with their silent indifference. I had come to dance before the Queen who had heard rumours of my beauty. I knelt before her in the great long throne room. 'Your majesty,' I said, 'I will dance for you but you must know that this comes with a price. How great the price will be I cannot tell, it will depend on your deepest heart.' 'Dance,' she commanded, 'I care not for such things. There is no price, I am the Queen.' So I tapped my hooves and jiggled my legs, I tossed my mane and I shook my head. I danced and I danced. My body shimmered and shone, radiant in the light of the chandeliers. As I danced a rumble began, it got louder and louder as the walls of the castle crumbled and fell around me. I carried on dancing until nothing was left and the Queen was nowhere to be seen. I assumed she was crushed under the rocks, but I had given her fair warning...

Artwork Details: Horse of Hope, 122x152cm, Collaged woodblock print, acrylic ink on Somerset satin paper, 2023 Artwork Provenance: from the Artist Studio photo credits, Isabel working, black and white shots, James Brown In Isabel's own words: Horse of Hope The world had become a sad grey place, mud, empty plains with bleak, loveless sky as far as the eye could see. It seemed that all was lost of the old world. Until one day a whisper began on the breeze, so quiet that you could hardly hear it. But it grew stronger and stronger until the trembled with the sound. 'The horse of hope is coming, the horse of hope is coming!' The horse of hope had arrived, its dainty hooves tapping along the way. Where there had been nothing but emptiness the horse trod and from its feet sprung new life and hope. The world became a lush carpet under its footsteps. Up sprang greenery, pushing its tendrils to the sky. Blue irises reached out their twisted delicate petals welcoming the new life in. Strong, dark foliage grew and grew, and with this creatures began to return from their hiding places. Out from rocks and stones they came, for there was hope once again and the world buzzed with new life. *Please note we are happy to ship this work rolled in an art tube. Whilst the work is on heavy duty art paper and mixed media, the artist is happy that the painting will be fine rolled in a tube.
