Watson And The Shark, 18th Century JOHN SINGLETON COPLEY (1738-1815) Large 18th Century scene of Watson And The Shark, oil on metal, John Singleton Copley. Excellent quality and condition late 18th century scene of 14 year old English boy Brook Watson attacked off the coast of Havana, Cuba as they attempt his rescue. Watson survived despite losing his leg and later became a Member of Parliament and Mayor of London. Copley produced numerous versions of the work of which this is suggested to be one, the others include those held by The National gallery Of Art, Washington and The Detroit Institute Of Arts. Presented in a handmade gilt foliate oval frame. Measurements: 31" x 25" framed approx Provenance: A Private Somerset collector, UK
