About the Item

Graphite Man on Red Beach, 2021 acrylic on canvas 78 47/64 H x 72 53/64 W cm 200 H x 185 W cm Signed middle front The artwork was part of the solo museum exhibition "Days of a Colossus" in 2023. Coming from the mists of time, the figure of the Colossus takes possession of the canvas, drawn in charcoal, oversized, conveying a feeling of peace and quiet. It is the Colossus who becomes the artist's alter-ego. The Colossus generally symbolizes a person or thing of considerable size, of a certain importance or ability. Rădvan's Colossi are drawn in graphite, in black and white, integrated into solar, strongly coloured landscapes, which emphasize the relationship between past versus present, memory versus immediate. Alexandru Rădvan describes this new series of works as follows: "I am the Colossus. With each passing season bringing me closer to an eternal summer, the Colossus grows around me, embracing me as a cocoon..... I hear that nothing matters anymore. I see a lot of fear and a lot of indifference, I see empty slogans, I see people in a terrible hurry. I see a lot of concern. The Colossus takes over the air vibrations, filters them through the sieves of history and myth, and tells me that mankind was always worried. The Colossus shows me that what I can really do is try and put together the small fragments of peace and try to compose an area of calmness.... A place where he could meet other Colossi, of other people.”
