This artwork titled "Clown, Medrano Circus, France" c.1960 is an oil painting on canvas by noted American artist Benton Scott, 1907-1983. It is signed at the lower left side by the artist. The canvas size is 12 x 10 inches, framed is 16 x 14 inches. Custom framed in a wooden gold frame. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Born in Los Angeles, CA on June 25, 1907. Scott studied at Otis Art Institute and with Will Foster, and continued in Paris at Académies Julian and Chaumiere. A lifelong resident of the Los Angeles area, he died in Orange, CA on March 22, 1983 He was known for his post-impressionist and plein-aire paintings. He lived in Paris, France during the late-1940's and early 50's where he studied (and exhibited) at the Academie Julien and the Academie de la Chaumier-Montparnasse. The subject of much of his work, during this period, focused on very tranquil, yet "typical" elements of the Parisian urban landscape or cityscape. Benton was known for painting circus clowns and their surroundings such as the Cirque Medrano in Paris. Member: Painters & Sculptors of LA; Society for Sanity in Art.
