James BamaJames Elliott Bama Oil on Board "And Then There Was One"
About the Item
James Elliott Bama was born in 1926 in New York City. He studied at the Arts Student League and became a very successful illustrator for magazines like the Saturday Evening Post. He moved with his wife in the 1960s to Wyoming where he started painting Western themed subjects. This masterful work was most likely painted during that period. He manages to evoke both humor and fear with this work, as the viewer is left to guess what exactly has happened to the rest of this fellow’s party. The detail is wonderful. It is an oil on board measuring 25 1/2 inches wide by 17 5/8 high. The frame is 28 3/4 by 21. Bama has auction results as high as $282,000. Great crossover appeal for the Bama and Illustration collector.
